Die Rotunde in Innsbruck im Stadtteil Saggen steht verschlossen da. Sie ist nur noch von außen zu betrachten. Ein denkmalgeschütztes Gebäude, das dem Verfall überlassen wird. Nora Jacobs‘ Idee einer 360° Panoramaprojektion im Inneren der Rotunde, angelehnt an die Riesenrundgemälde des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts, stellte sich jedoch als aussichtslos heraus. Darauf soll mit dem Bau einer zweiten, kleineren Rotunde geantwortet werden, die im öffentlichen Raum in Innsbruck aufgestellt und begehbar sein wird. In der mobilen Rotunde ist eine 360° Videoprojektion mit Aufnahmen des Horizonts zu sehen.
In dieser Arbeit geht es zum einen um die Übersetzung einer Sehnsucht nach Weite und einem anderen Ist-Zustand. Zum anderen sollen Fragen zur Zukunft der Innsbrucker Rotunde gestellt, sowie die Schönheit und Wichtigkeit dieser Architektur in den Vordergrund gerückt werden.
Die Projektion des Horizonts simuliert ein ambivalentes Gefühl, wie es auf einem Schiff im offenen Meer oder inmitten einer Steinwüste ausgelöst werden kann. Die Welt scheint hier unendlich fern und zugleich ganz nah zu sein. Und beim Schauen auf den Horizont mischt sich ein Gefühl der Hoffnung dazu für eine andere Zukunft.
The Rotunda in Innsbruck's Saggen district stands closed. It can only be viewed from the outside. A listed building that is left to decay. Nora Jacobs' idea of a 360° panorama projection inside the Rotunda, based on the giant circular paintings of the 18th and 19th centuries, however, turned out to be futile. The answer is to be found in the construction of a second, smaller rotunda, which will be set up in public space in Innsbruck and will be accessible. The mobile rotunda will feature a 360° video projection with images of the horizon.
This work is on the one hand about the translation of a longing for vastness and another actual state. On the other hand, questions are to be asked about the future of the Innsbruck Rotunda, and the beauty and importance of this architecture are to be brought to the fore.
The projection of the horizon simulates an ambivalent feeling, as it can be triggered on a ship in the open sea or in the middle of a stone desert. The world here seems infinitely distant and at the same time very close. And when looking at the horizon, a feeling of hope is mixed in for a different future.
